A Modern Traveler's Tale

My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Worldwide | Monday, 7 November 2011 | flickr photos

These photos are taken during my travel in July 2011 to Lao PDR a hidden gem in South East Asia, it remains as subtle as it can, although being surrounded by countries which tourism already flourishes like Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.

Vientiane the capital of Lao PDR, will take you back where holiday is defined by taking the time to finish the book on the local coffee shop or working on the project you would like to finish although modernism slowly creeping in.

Luang Prabang in the other hand is a small charming rustic city. So small that you can cover it in one hour. Daily life would include to see the monks walking up and down the streets, getting alms from the citizen or tourists, cycle around the city, sipping coffee in a bakery and finally enjoying the colours exploded calmly in the night market.

It’s a country where the time is lost, it’s where you ask for peace and calmness, one of the rare attributes for flourishing South East Asia.

The journey itself while short are giving me a retrospect of how I would approach travel photography in the future. When we looked at travel photography; we can say that there's three elements that constructed the base. The landscapes, the details and of course the local people. To approach these three and giving them equal amount of exposure require a lot of concentration and training.

I believe that photography is a very powerful tool to express one opinions and ideas, to share and deliver this is another challenge and hopefully by joining the Travel Photography Scholarship I could get the experience and knowledge necessary for creating not only beautiful images but also meaningful.
