    A young boy is playing with a plastic bottle after having been standing in line for over two hours with his family. On October 28 people come from all over the country to visit the Maximon altar in San Andrés Itzapa. Most are Christian. The empty seats of the local Catholic church in San Andrés Itzapa on the day of Maximon's birthday, October 28, a day of celebration. The church views Maximon, A shaman spits schnapps in the face of a man in a cleansing ritual that also includes being hit by seven different herbs and drinking a shot. Maximon has a weakness for alcohol and so the most common offering is a bottle of schnapps or beer, although money bills and fried chicken are popular alternative. by: troels Views[2231] A part of the ritual is to burn candles, chocolate, honey and eggs.
