My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Worldwide | Tuesday, November 8, 2011 | 5 photos

I don't think I've wanted to be a photographer all my life, at least I don't have a clear memory about it. Of course, I've always loved photos, just like most people do. The fascinating feeling when looking at images, the unwritten stories they tell.

And then I grew up and started to travel. It felt so liberating, it felt so me.

And then I started taking pictures while making my journeys. And started making journals with the photos taken and started sharing them. The journey really ended when I had my pictures out there. This is what really liberates me, it's my decision what to show, what to tell, how people will perceive one place.

Then one day I went to Spain. I visited several cities starting with Barcelona and finishing with it. And just before my flight back home I was robbed. It was awful. And it was awful not because of my money, papers, ticket and cards stolen, but because of my personal space, the things that are a part of me - my iPod with the music I love and my camera - with all the photos I have taken during my journey - all the captured moments, places and faces. He has broken my very private space. Of course, in a few months I bought a new iPod and a new camera, a better one and kept on travelling and taking photos.

Now, I want to share a story I captured with my new camera while going to one of my travels. Why exactly this one? Maybe because this is the most controversial country I have visited. I don't know.

Still, I know one thing. Travelling and making photos is what makes me free and happy. And this contest sounds exactly like this. A key to freedom and happiness

Ah, yes, one more thing. I still miss those stolen photos.
