Matthew Keegan: Presenter
I caught up with Matthew for a quick interview two weeks ago at the Moulan Rouge.
“Hi Matthew, thanks for meeting me”.
“Hey mate. No probs. Can you pass me that wig?”
“Ah, yeah sure. So what's been happening since Taiwan?”
“Oh man, everything. Did you know the world is ending this year? Bam. Gone. Can you pass me those stilettos?”
“Umm...yeah I think I saw a movie about it... so anyway, what brings you to Paris, and more importantly the Moulin Rouge?”
“You've got to Google that shit man. Mayans knew all about it....they knew.... Where'd you say we were?”
“Ahh...Paris? As in the capital of France.”
“.....this isn't the 'Fans of Marilyn Monroe' convention? In Porto Rico?”
“No...although that does explain your outfit. Nice heels by the way.”
“Thanks they're Manolo Blahniks. So whose dressing room are we in?”
“The name on the door says 'Madam Belle'.”
“.....we should probably go. Seems a waste to get all dressed up for nothing though.....want to buy me dinner?”
“No.”
“Can I borrow ten bucks?”
“Absolutely not.”
Matthew is the classic extroverted introvert. Happy to sit quietly in a car on a ten day road trip, or throw a feathered boa around his neck and do the fox trot at Aunt Wilma's 91st birthday bash. His life highlights to date include winning the “Best Ass in Portugal” trophy three years running, and training his cat to sit on command (try it....it isn't easy). Also along the way he managed to focus enough to pick up two undergrad degrees. His job descriptions have been many and varied, but the one thing they all have in common is that he is always communicating with people. Comfortable with people of all ages and backgrounds he loves the camera. And the camera loves him.
Winning this Scholarship would be a huge step in meeting Trent and Matthew's shared goal to make a sustainable living out of travel film making. They both have a tremendous passion for learning about, and interacting with, the lives of others around the globe. They are both at the stage where professional mentorship would open the door to the next level in new skills and technique development while also refining existing ones. In short winning this scholarship would mean everything to them.
