Treking Nepal

My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Worldwide | Sunday, August 22, 2010 | 4 photos

I trekked in Nepal in 2008 & it would be one of the highlights of my life. My only regret is that I was a relative newcomer to SLR photography & feel that if I could do it again my images would be better.
My photography life started 4 years ago, I new nothing about SLR cameras or photoshop. Life has been very busy leaning this new language. I attended a couple of local Adult Ed courses, joined the local photography club & I read & practise alot. I became secretary of the club & with this position was able to forge great friendships with people who had been members for years & they happily encouraged & nurtured my desire to learn. My gratitude goes out to several members of the club who have helped my growth. I was lucky enough to win the "Print of the Year' in 2009 in our local club. This encouragment urges me on.

The 4 images I have selected show a cross section of my trip.

Image 1:This porter was treking for his very first time. I was amazed at the his strength. The magnificient scenery was breathtaking & for me it was an amazing time, but for him it was hard painful work. At night he would tell me softly that his head & neck hurt.

Image 2 is of one of the trekers. The amazing countryside is full of waterfalls & I wanted to show movement in the water & the treker to give a taste of the vitality that I was feeling.

Image 3 is of a Nepalese stove in one of the villages we stopped at. It's simplicity & it's smoothness is enhanced by the warm tones. Beautiful.

Image 4 was taken in Pokhara of an old man riding a bike. I must admit that this was an accident with the shutter speed as I wanted him to be clear, but I love this image anyway. It grabs me. It speaks of worlds I know not about, it has mystery. Where is he going, where does he live?

Thankyou WorldNomad.
