Penarth and Dr Who

Hard to capture the full length of the pier.

The recent series of Dr Who was filmed in Cardiff and memorabilia is everywhere. We visited the Dr Who exhibition this afternoon...not a lot of information, but lots of special effects. Tom has decided he wants to be the person who finally answers the question about whether there are living beings on other planets. Hamish keeps calling the Daleks "garlics".

Later in the afternoon, we drove across to Penarth. After looking across at the town with its gracious architecture for so many days, we needed to satisfy our curiosity. We walked along the pier and part of the "beach". Hamish shouted "rocks" in surprise when he caught his first glimpse of the beach. We found a great pub serving the traditional Welsh cawl, a tasty stew. It was cheap and very yummy. They also had a selection of health conscious menu selections for the children.

I've been surprised at the availability of good food options...I was ready for stodge, but we have been enjoying some great food - not always cheap, but plenty of really healthy options and very good nutrition labelling systems.

Today was the first overcast day we've had in Wales. The cloud cover made it quite warm. I was beginning to think the stories of rainy Wales were a complete fabrication as we'd had nothing but sunshine since arriving.

Love the view from your apartment - it will be great for the boys to watch the harbour with boats coming and going etc. Yes beaches with pebbles are quite a shock! Very uncomfy to walk/sit on as well. Does the tide go out a long way? ANZAC Day march went well yesterday (even though it rained as usual!). Kate, Trish and I were the official guests at the RSL lunch - had to sit at head table with HMAS Albatross Navy officer, President of the RSL group etc...very funny, lots of beer flowing and toasts.. ended with Pipes and Drums (am now partially deaf in one ear due to sitting behind the bag pipers!!).
Tell Hamish that I was terrified of 'garlics' when I was little - Doctor Who was a regular family TV show (followed by Top of The Pops) and I used to hide behind the setee every time they appeared...I can still hear 'I will exterminate, I will exterminate..'

The girls have always referred to Dr Who as "Dr Hugh".

James will be jealous because he is an absolute Dr Who devotee.

This photo reminds me of Christmas at Brighton with my kids many years ago....no sand castles and no suntans - did you take your bikini?
Love to you all - am wishing I was there...
