Spaniard Greatness

I will never forget the day that changed my whole life. It was one hell of a day, when I knew the news of me getting a scholarship to study in Spain; the cold of the news wet my thirsty spirit. I got an email, did not open it, got a call telling me to check my email, and it was the scholarship email. I was astonished, that I never thought I would have this opportunity. My friend sitting next to me told me to calm down and stop screaming; due to the joyful news. Working hard bears fruit to get what you deserve, ALWAYS.
First Spanish day, in Granada, was rainy, full of too many new things, clean streets, smart people, BEAUTIFUL language and accent. I was thrilled to talk to Spanish people, yes a little bit scared to do so but thrilled to be in such a situation. Jet lag? Absolutely, during the first three days, but then I began to get used to the Spanish life, or la vida española.
Going to eat tapas was one of my favorite parts of the day, when you go into a bar to drink a coke, they serve you a snack alongside. Meeting new people makes you feel want to know their culture and habits. Even though your heart is attached to someone in your home country, you still want to explore new cultures. Spaniards like making ‘bridges’ between weekends; like when they have a holiday on Tuesday, they will take the day before (Monday) off, or if it is a Thursday, they will have the next day (Friday) off. Once we had a Tuesday off and also a Thursday off within the same week, so we got the whole week off!! Marvelous, isn’t it?
Granada is the center of the old Spanish civilization, and to be more precise, it is the heart of old Islamic culture. You walk in the streets, the old tiled ones, and they ‘penetrate’ their beauty into your soul. You start form the very bottom, go up and up, you keep walking and going up for like half an hour, until you reach a fabulous place; which is called ‘El Mirador de San Nicolás’ (= San Nicolás Viewpoint). It is beside the Grand Mosque of Granada, and opposite to La Alhambra, the heart of Andalusia. You can keep sitting there for the whole day, if it is not hot, simply because you will never get bored of keep looking at Alhambra, or having a view over the whole city of Granada. During the night, Alhambra is ‘beautified’ with awesome lights, which makes it even more beautiful to look at. At this viewpoint, you can listen to los gitanos (= gypsies) playing guitar and singing, they are very good.
I just love being exposed to new things in life.
