My Scholarship entry - A local encounter that changed my life

It's a like any ordinary morning. Getting up, brush my teeth and getting everything in place before my drive out.
I wish to tell everyone that I lead an adventurous life where like a movie in Stargate, I get to travel from one world to a totally different one within seconds. Pfft. Wishful thinking again. Something changed. Just for this morning.
During my drive out, I saw her again. The same chinese lady walking at the side of the road. This time, she got me wondering. She has this burdened expression on her face, slightly hunched back and like usual, the oversized tourist T-shirt that hangs over her scrawny frame. Her skin is darkened and seem to glisten under the harsh morning sun. She must have walked from the main road towards Jalan Gasing, I thought. What a long walk for a an old lady!
Our eyes met and I smiled at her from my seat. Intinctively, I could have pulled over and offered her a lift but something told me not to. "Don't mess with what is meant to happen". So I drove past her.
I can't help wondering though. Why this walk every morning?Alone? Why isn't someone there to drive her? Where is her family member? Where is she headed to?
There is a well known Methodist church down the road and perhaps that is her destination. If I guessed it right, she must have something that she needed to pray very hard for. Her faith persuaded her to walk this gruelling walk every morning. Her church is her sanctuary and for a few seconds in my car, I smiled. I understood her completely.
She is walking in faith, she knew her destination and I should know mine too. How profound it is on a usual day, usual morning.
We all walk everyday for various reasons. I realized that no matter how young or old we are, with faith, your destination is never too far away. Her act of simply walking have given me a lot of courage that I am never too old for anything as long as I keep trying.
