m Home!
2008-04-15 to 2008-05-10
I left Bangkok on Tuesday April 15, 2008 on the 7:20 pm flight, scheduled to arrive at LAX at 9:25 pm of the same night. It was an hour early getting in. I almost went back in time. The flight was, dare I say, wonderful. My travel insurance paid for my ticket home, and, with doctor’s orders, put me in business class. Let me tell you, it is the only way to fly. I watched some movies, had some gourmet food, put the massage on, reclined the chair and went to sleep. When I woke up, we were already starting to prepare for landing. Now I know how the other half lives!
It was a strange feeling, leaving Bangkok airport, which is absolutely spotless and brand new, and arriving at LAX, which is pretty much exactly the opposite. They wheeled me from the plane through the airport, breezing through customs and immigration, and out to my parents. I think I might hold on to this leg brace for the next time I travel!
The drive home made me fear for my life, maybe even more so than the idea of a head on collision with a Sri Lankan bus. There are so many cars, and they all go so fast!
I saw another doctor once I got home and he told me that I still have at least another 6 weeks before I can start to put weight on my leg. Then I`ll have to learn to walk all over again. I guess I`ll be here for a while...
Aside from that, most everything was the same. The freeways are the same, the buildings are the same, the people are the same. Only time will tell how much I’m the same.
