Photography is My Guaitil Pleasure

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Costa Rica | Sunday, January 13, 2013 | 3 photos

I love photography as it enables self-expression. In Sri Lanka, people have no real way of communicating with the outside world. As an ethnic Sri Lankan, I want to learn how to effectively share the stories of those who are censored. Armed with the right skills, I feel I could serve as a voice to all those denied the right to express themselves.
By sharing my adventures with friends and family, I have inspired them to challenge the world and explore it for themselves. Learning how to work as a field photographer would help me tell stories better, so I may inspire on a bigger scale.
Whilst my passion for photography keeps growing, I currently lack the skills, industry experience and contacts to turn this into a rewarding career. I would love to devote my life to inspiring others and hope to use this opportunity as a stepping-stone to achieving that.
I believe you should choose me because I am eager to learn. I would love to explore Oman, learn about local life there and use the experience to grow as a photographer. With the right mentoring from Jason Edwards, I feel this could be THE foot in the door, giving me the needed skills to turn my creative visions into a satisfying career.
