My Photo scholarship 2011 entry
Laos | Friday, November 4, 2011 | 5 photos
I started my relationship with photography when I was introduced to the basic photography class in campus 8 years ago. I've learned to photograph with a SLR film camera and gets to know how to develop my own photos in the dark room. Since then, I've adore photography.
After my graduation, I've spent 5 years in the video production field and lost my connection with photography for 5 years. Last year, I've decided to quit my career and started to travel - to broaden my view and once again, reconnecting myself with photography. I've spent my past year traveling around Southeast Asia and Oceania continent. When I've returned home, I started to work as a freelancer in video production field, so I could have more freedom and more versatile for my future travel and to further improve my travel photography skills.
These series of photos were taken on my latest trip to Laos, in Oct 2011. Laos is the poorest and smallest country in Southeast Asia. Most of the people at the other part of the world won't even know this country has ever existed. All those facts don't stop the charm of Laos - in fact, it is a very unique country and beautiful at its very own way. As a southeast Asian myself - I am totally impressed with the friendliness and happiness of the Lao people. Ever since Luang Phrabang has been granted as UNESCO world heritage site, and tourists started to swamped in the country. Over the years, Luang Phrabang could still maintaining its very own laid back lifestyle between the country and the modern life.
It was one of the ordinary evening at Luang Phrabang - I was admiring the beautiful sunset at the Mekong River, but the daily local life have caught my attentions and here, I proudly present my series of photos - the local people at the Mekong River.
