Biking to Barcelona

Day 9 - 70 miler Barbezieux-Saint-Hilair to Saint E Milion

UNITED KINGDOM | Wednesday, 5 August 2015 | Views [171]

60miles in 4 hours riding time 🚲.

Another swig of port to start the day, shorts full of chamois cream, bananas and bread in the belly....off we cycled towards St Emilion. The gods were smiling and we had sunshine and a fabulous cycleway all the way to Clerac. En route we meet a French cyclist who tried his very best to strike up a conversation with Shiambi and Taitoko who quickly summoned for Jassar to intervene with her broken french. He lead us through the construction of a new motorway connecting Paris to Bordeaux. As our bellies were rumbling, we were desperately in need of food. With bread, cheese and chips in hand we had a lovely picnic at a nearby picnic area opposite a muddy pond. Feeling full, it was time for a nap. We were rudely awoken by none other than English tourists and a brat of a child calling out 'I want to go home'! Feeling a bit lightheaded Taitoko caused two crashes resulting in Shiambi landing on her arse and soon after Taitoko on her back with legs up in the air. All during an exchange of words with Jassar gently suggesting she might like to keep her distance otherwise she may cause an accident:
J. Don't stop suddenly! Give me warning.
T. Do you have to be up my arse?

After we all giggled at each other's mishap/s we finally arrived at our next accommodation. Taitoko's famous words 'Only ten minutes more and we are there' are very much like the french 1 kilometer: it is as long as a piece of string!

We celebrated with a few beers, some more port and a nice bottle of St Emilion red wine in a resturant. We were given a table in a wine cave....Shiambi and Taitoko thought they were being treated special...Jassar quickly advised them that they were being put out of the way 😀.... Food was fab though! Taitoko finally got her fish, Shiambi had meat and Jassar had an endless supply of bread with her veggies - everytime she finished a roll a waiter appeared at her shoulder with more.

Another french kilometer wander back through the vineyards and it was time for bed.
