My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Japan | Saturday, January 12, 2013 | 5 photos

Five months ago I started a journey. I wanted to see the world, follow my dreams and reshape my future. All these threads intertwine when I pick up my camera.

Photography was once my passion—in college I minored in photography, paid for by working in a camera store, no less. But then, life changed course and photography became my hobby. Traveling has resparked my love for the medium by giving me a way to show the world as I experience it, good, bad, beautiful, ugly and everything in between.

Our planet is unimaginably vast and humbling and I am moved to give form to my experiences so that others might understand the world the way I'm starting to: full of life's immediacy and every bit of it worth exploring. My roots in film inform my style; I show people the world as I witness it, without artifice or barriers. To me, photography's beauty lies in truth.

The best photographers are always learning and push themselves to better their skills and gain new insights into the world. This scholarship offers me this, and furthers my ability to share the fraction of the world I am lucky enough to see while inspiring others, as well as myself, to experience more of what is all around us.
