Getting new eyes

UKRAINE | Monday, 7 September 2015 | Views [385] | Scholarship Entry

I love video shooting! Majority of the most exciting and memorable events happened to me when I turned on the camera. I started seeing the world differently! It also gives me a lot of pleasure to observe how various different pieces of footage evolve together to form an interesting holistic film. It's an inspiring challenge to create visually appealing work. But lately I've been thinking more and more about how to tell compelling stories using such material.
The most fascinating story is a true story of real people. I had the experience of filming interviews with church leaders from different cities of our country. It gave me some insight of how to work in real time with people and some experience of combining live communication with shooting.
After the war began in Ukraine, there was a need for creating videos revealing the difficult fate of internally displaced people and inspiring stories of volunteers. I understood that a well visualized story can play an important role in spreading the information about what is happening in the part of our country affected by war. These video stories share needs, hope and inspiration with the audience. While I was working as volunteer video producer, I felt a need for developing skills of finding and crafting stories.
Participating in a master class in Colombia and becoming a part of training of filmmakers is a unique opportunity for me not only to acquire new skills but also in the words of my short film’s heroine ‘to get new eyes’!
