As adults we sometimes forget about our ‘imagination’ through growing up. Things that got our attention and imagination when we were children no longer do, we just get caught up in everyday living. Children see the simple things, and it absolutely excites them, their imagination is endless. The simple things can bring out every emotion in a child, just the same way a child brings out every emotion in an adult, and I believe the same to be true with a picture.
A day spent with my family created an opportunity to capture 2 very important little people in my life, my beautiful niece Alex who was very happy with a piece of chalk and the concrete, and my handsome son who stared at the simple blue ball intensely trying to figure it out.
Seeing through a child’s eyes is how I feel about photography. When a child sees a foreign object, a tree, the sky, a toy they are mesmerized by it, as if it’s the first time discovering it, they can also encourage you to look at it differently. When you have your camera in hand you do see things differently, it could be the same street you’ve seen for years, the same landscape or an everyday object, transformed by the image you’ve captured.
Being a part of travelling to South Africa alongside Jason Edwards and to be lucky enough for the opportunity to capture some breathtaking images would be a life changing experience that I can look back on one day and remember the emotion and imagination when looking at the pictures. I hope my images can capture the imagination of anyone who comes across them even if for a brief moment.
