Dreaming To Live Abroad

MEXICO | Wednesday, 6 May 2015 | Views [157] | Scholarship Entry

The gargling crow of a rooster bellowing into the hot rising sun wakes me from my dreams. The sweat soaked covers stick to my damp skin as I roll out of my little cot and rub my tired eyes. My dreams were so lucid and full of bright colors. The smell of freshly cooked meat and the sound of acoustic guitars is all I need to get out of bed. The birds are chirping and the ocean waves hit the shoreline with a fierce power only to be sucked back into the vast pool of salt water. Stepping outside,my feet sink into the warm sand. The sun blinds me momentarily as my eyes adjust. As I raise my arms to the baby blue sky I breathe in a deep inhale of fresh oxygen and thank the universe for finally bringing me to this glorious place. I've dreamed of living here for many years. As I exhale I look back on my small cottage of old wood, red clay and straw.
I live a simple life with very few things. A sweet iced coffee with a bowl of fresh fruit from the local market makes for an excellent start to the day. The beach seems as though it never ends. The golden sand wraps around the earth like a velvety blanket. Seagulls fly around in circles and the swaying palm trees dance with the waves that continue to crash against the shore.
This is my dream come true. My hidden treasure buried in a bay. This is Sayulita, Mexico.
Some people thrive on five star hotels with an all-inclusive package and a pool full of tourists, but not me. I like this little surf town. It's my home away from home. I've made friendships here and I just have to walk down the street to see a familiar face.
The streets are lined with delicious taco stands and the aromas that wisp through the air are heavenly. The sharp scents of cilantro, garlic, onions and meat fill my nostrils instantly making me hungry. It's always a good time for tacos.
As I devour my scrumptious taco I walk along the beach and admire the brave surfers awaiting the next big swell. The water is unpredictable yet soothing at the same time. Who wouldn't want to live in this paradise? Who wouldn't love this?
I'm surrounded by beauty. It's not to far away from my family and the sun soaks my skin everyday. The food is always so tasty and healthy.
I want to settle in a place that's never cold and the ocean is only a stones throw away. I want to eat fresh fruit and live off the land. I will always return to my little slice of heaven off the coast of Banderas Bay. In my quaint little home away from home. Sayulita Nayarit, Mexico. My treasure.
