Filled with excited shrieks and bursts of laughter, the Maui County fair brings a whimsical playground to our community. Adults and children alike gather to eat cotton candy and experience adrenaline rushes caused from the fast moving, hang- you- upside-down, carnival rides. This is a place made for fun and adventure.
There is a saying that people truly grow when they find themselves outside of their comfort zone. When I discovered photography, I was traveling alone for the first time. Finding myself in a strange, unknown city was fairly nerve-racking. So, on what I like to think of as divine intuition, I pulled out my camera and started taking pictures of everything. My lens traveled from the little spiders making their webs in the bushes, up to the silhouettes of the tall buildings stretching above me. The more pictures I took, the more comfortable and excited I became about the place I was discovering. Thus, began my love of photography. Since then, I believe I look at the world a bit more closely; and it’s a very special place. I have arrived at the theory that the world loves to be photographed. In fact, at times it feels like particular moments are just patiently waiting to be noticed. Sometimes, all I do is step back with my camera and watch as life says, “hello”. This planet is truly remarkable, and I get immense joy out of sharing my expression of it with other people. I am eager to learn more about photography, and am trying to pursue it as a career. It would be a privilege to study with such a renowned photographer and magazine. I would also treasure this opportunity to experience the Kingdom of Bhutan; a breathtakingly beautiful and peaceful country. I hope to meet you.
