My Scholarship Entry - Camp Tekakwitha
USA | Sunday, January 13, 2013 | 5 photos
This project I hold particularly close to my heart, as it allowed me to combine the two things that I feel myself called to in my career- Photography, and Service. I worked as a camp counselor at Camp Tekakwitha for three years after being a camper for many prior. During the hour of prayer time allotted to the staff each morning, I went out around the campus and captured what I saw through the lens. It was a spiritual experience for me, and it brought me closer to peace. I photographed the people that made the camp special, the places that were important to me as a camper, and the areas that I saw a beauty unique to Prairie Star Ranch. I tried to bring back a story of a place that so few had experience with.
I am a student at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY studying photography. As of now, I am trying to determine how I can carry this beautiful experience that this past summer had to offer me into my future career as a travel photographer, and I see this World Nomads Scholarship as an opportunity to experience one direction that would make that possible.
