My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

“Taking into account the knowledge of time, evolution, species and the universe our existence seems monotonous, rendering it a pointless excursion. But taking into account such phenomena’s as human emotion and human experience which exist in engagements within this life, somehow makes this place seem somewhat meaningful, but easily taken for granted.” I have a love affair with documental photography. Photos that record and capture life and times, culture and consequence in places around the world. It allows us to look back and reflect on times gone by. The work of Danny Lyons and Robert Capa excite me and inspire me to document the world. I have traveled to places such as Greece, France, Japan, Singapore and Indonesia to capture and record original glimpses of reality that evoke beauty in my eyes. The photos I have submitted are film prints taken from an island named Lombok in Indonesia. They are apart of a small series i produced for my photographic studies in Australia depicting people i came across or met during my stay. They depict workers in the 'Mataram markets' who sit for hours at a time amongst the vibrant swell of barter and prices, the tattooed adolescent criminals of 'Sengiggi' relaxing by their motorbike workshop, joyous innocent children amongst the street poverty and limber street mutts and the eyes i'll never forget owned by the girl i fell in love with during my stay. The photos depict my trip, sentimental perspectives that hold information concerning the environment and day to day living of the people in the area. All in all i will continue this process throughout my life regardless but having the opportunity to work and be mentored by a professional photographer on assignment would obviously be an amazing opportunity to learn capture.
