My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

These photos were taken during a road trip me and four of my friends undertook for my 22nd birthday. We were living in Argentina at the time and we decided to visit the Mendoza area, a famous wine region near the Andes. Since we only had 5 days for our trip, we packed as many activities as we possibly could in them. Next to horseback riding, golfing and paragliding we rented a car and so we drove into the Andes before dawn to see the sunrise in the mountains. The drive through the majestic mountains was incredible, with landscapes ranging from dusty desserts to snowy peaks. We ended these amazing five days with the bike & wine tour, pedaling through the beautiful autumn colors of the Mendoza wine fields.
After my first digital camera was stolen, I decided to upgrade to a digital SLR camera before moving to Argentina for 14 months. Even though the main reason I was there was because of an exchange semester and internship for my Bachelor’s degree, I was able to devote most of my time to my true passion - photography. Traveling through Argentina, Chile and Brazil, I was able to capture amazing moments which I will always cherish. After those 14 months, I was also able to see a large part of Asia, though which I travelled for another 5 months. Again, I experienced sensational things and met remarkable people. Coming home with 5 photo books filled with memories, I am now back in the Netherlands.
Even though I am still actively photographing whenever I can, I’ve noticed that the combination of traveling and photography truly inspires me to take my photos to a higher level. And that is why it would love to be chosen for this scholarship - to learn even more about taking photos of not only wonderful people and places, but also moments that have a special place in my heart.
