The Hidden Treasure

USA | Monday, 25 May 2015 | Views [119] | Scholarship Entry

My travel treasures will be story of places I discover, the people that I have met and the beautiful creations that God has created thousand of years ago that has continued to evolve and remain beautiful. Traveling has taught me to be on my own and to think with clarity of who I am and where I am heading in life and to always find a purpose in whatever I choose to do in life. It is not always the beautiful beaches or tourist locations that I would like to visit but for me, dreaming of seeing the ruins of a Nepal town after the earthquake can show how resilient human can to rebuild what was lost and the human compassion to help one another get back on their foot, or coming back to the French Quarters in New Orleans to how people's strong will to rebuild a community that Hurricane Katrina destroyed, or to visit the Statue of Liberty in Ellis Island, New York to remember who I am and where I have came from and the sacrifices that my loved ones have made for me and my family to be here in the United States to live in the freedom and to dream a future that my loved ones can only think of but never achieved, or to just bring my toddler brothers to a beach in Corpus Christi and to see the laughs on their faces as they enjoy the water and seeing them enjoy the large body of water for the first time in their lives, or just to be able to scuba diving off the water in Hawaii. Beach has always scared me after I almost drowned in its powerful forces years ago as a child. Confronting my fears would help me become a better individual. Traveling has always prepared me to see things and the people in a different light because I am thrown out of my comfort zone into and to be able to breathe in different environment and knowing with great strength and beliefs that I can survive anything that life can throw at me despite the overwhelming circumstances. My mother has taught me that if I never get out of my comfort zone to see the world beyond and to grow into an individual who has more knowledge in life in general than books can ever teach, I would never become a fulfilled individual that God intended me for me to become.
