My Photo scholarship 2010 entry
Worldwide | Thursday, September 30, 2010 | 5 photos
These were taken at a disused colliery in the north of England, it became known as The Wreck. Everytime something got built it would be destroyed by people who did not want it there, but they kept going back, building more and most of all, skating.
I want to take photos of subjects that people wouldn't ordinarily see. The wreck project went on under the nose's of people, councillors, police and no one realised, only undesirables who ruined the place everytime something was built, but the skaters still went back.
I want to use images to educate people, to show them things out of the ordinary. Make them realize that not what only is going on right under there nose matters, different cultures, landscapes and nature can relate back to their own community.
I'm from a small mining town in the north of England in west yorkshire, I travel as much as I can to surf, skate, snowboard, to meet people and experience places. But I always return home to tell people about where I have been and what I have done. Hopefully they'll get the same out of my stories and images and go on their own adventures and discover the world for themselves.
If my images can give people the get up and go to go out and discover things for themselves then I feel like I've achieved something more than just going on a trip and shooting photos.
All the images were taken on a Nikon D40 on the monochrome setting on the camera. Nothing fancy but I think it does the job.
Hope you like them.
Cheers
