To the Land of Art and Wine

In just a few short weeks, I will embark upon my first overseas adventure. To say that I'm excited, bewildered and a little bit frightened would still be an understatement.
I'm a June baby, so, according to my friendly neighborhood astrologist, I'm a natural explorer and a lover of all things new. I say that it's the longtime Queens, NY girl in me who longs for greener pastures (even though Queens is pretty darn green by NYC standards,) and the artist in me who pines for impressive architecture, ancient art and exotic customs (which Manhattan, though awesome, only gives you a mere taste of. )
My best friends and I will for sure do the requisite tourist-y things (like climbing the Eiffel Tower and riding aboard a gibdola,) but we're also looking forward to hitting the roads less traveled (a student apartment on the Seine, a stroll through the local streets of Venice, a breakfast procured by neighborhood markets.)
What I'm most looking forward to, however, is not merely the luxurious dogs of the couple of evenings in fancy hotels on which we splurged via the assistance of online discounting,) but meeting the residents. Even if our efforts to communicate with one another are somewhat limited, the idea of personally interacting with someone who lives an ocean away is the real reason that I want to travel.
It had never occurred to me that I could do this for a living, but, in entering this contest, I've come to realize that I have a unique gift (the ability to write, and to write well,) which actually does have a home within the travel world into which I seek entrenchment.
Hers hoping that I did a good enough job to have a shot at this. If not, I may just try again.
