Divided Iceland

Between Two Plates

ICELAND | Monday, 21 April 2014 | Views [83] | Scholarship Entry

With my feet spread apart and the sun shining down on my face I finally felt free. My world was literally split in two and nothing else felt more normal.
It began with a volcanic eruption that halted the World and contunied with my burning desire to explore the mystical country situated in the north Atlantic. Iceland was a country of mystery and wonder and I was a sixteen year old dying for an adventure, and a cool story to begin my Junior with. After begging and negotiating with mt parents my dad finally agreed to take me to this peculiar destination.
As I stood with my feet spread apart and the warm Icelandic breeze forcing my braid to orbit my head I finally understood why this country was so majestic. This country, being pulled by North America and Europe reminded me of myself. The uniqueness of this country did not match anything I have ever seen before and I felt like home. The day I stood tall and placed my feet firmly between North America and Europe was the day I found myself, and I for that I will never forget that day or the magical country of Iceland.
