My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

This trip to the local Zoo was supposed to be about seeing beautiful animals and taking photographs. Disgust seeped in the moment I entered. The animals were sad, not looked after properly and the visitors completely insensitive towards them; especially monkeys and crocodiles. I saw many throw stones and unnecessarily annoy the poor creatures already forced to live in ‘unlivable’ conditions.
In these photographs I have talked about animals and the freedom that they deserve. Zoos across the world need to do more to protect the dignity these wild animals deserve. Citizens need to be more aware and gentle towards them.
I love photography and the power it has to tell stories (individually or through photo essays). It s the only thing I want to do. I am interested in dedicating my life towards documentary photography and making the transition from an amateur to a professional photographer.
