My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

The photos was taken during my first Christmas I spent alone abroad, in Stockholm. It was memorable and exciting, also complicated where I was slightly lonely to spend Christmas without my family for the first time but excited to experience my first white Christmas. The camera used was Panasonic DMC-ZR1. No adjustment and cropping was done to the photos and the camera was set to Auto when these photos was taken. I like "authentic" photos. I believe in "a photo means a thousand word", there are moments where words simply can't express. Since I was young, my dad likes to take photos and printed them out, writing his thoughts at the back of the photos and placed them into photo albums. That was the time before digital camera was introduced. I dislike to act like a so called "typical Asian tourist", whenever he/she arrives to a tourist spots, he/she has to take photos with himself/herself in the photos to show to others that he/she has been there. It was meaningless to me, what is the purpose of travel? I want to explore and enjoy every single corners and moment slowly if possible, to meet the locals, explore the local specialities like food, art craft. This provides different perspectives of the place I visit. I should be chosen as I am always passion about photography and willing to learn new techniques and knowledge in viewing and capturing the moments through photos, to share my happiness, excitement and bad times with my love ones as I am currently studying abroad. Photos are the only way I can share my current life with my loves one back home. It will be a memorable and fruitful experience to join this trip to South Africa. I can imagine the fun, excitement, hard work, learning from Jason with the environments with animals around. Definitely, a lot to be learnt with!
