How did I end up here?
The frozen water stung my bare feet like little air forces set on attack which soon enough left my legs tickling with numbness, shook me up and my entire body came to life. How did I end up here?
It was one of the cold days of January, the 26th.Just a day before my birthday, when the world decided to give me a special kind of gift. The gift of pure rush; when I spontaneously-by that I mean without thinking at all - jumped in a Frozen lake in Leszno- Poland, when it was -5 ?.
The same way I experienced this rush ‘spontaneously’, I just set you; dear readers; for the events that took place two weeks and four days after the lake experience. Yes, I know you’re counting, and it did happen on the 14th of February, the date might be cliché but I assure you the adventure is far away from the romantic theme Valentine’s Day rule.
How I ended up on the porch of a shelter at 2 in the morning in the middle of what seemed to be a white portrait, a shelter that only Polish people knew it existed remarked the significance of Valentine’s Day for me, or in other words ‘The Weekend’. This took place in the mountains of Beskid zywiecki where I spent three unforgettable days. When I trace back this memory, I find myself contemplating on events in relation to time; I’m more convinced that it is not measured by minutes but by value.
It was during my two months EVS in Poland. We decided to go hiking in the mountains and head on a six hours drive road trip to reach the nearest point. We had no idea how long it would take us on foot to reach our shelter.
The feeling of this late night hike; like unfolding little steps. The statuesque trees forced my view to be fixed on the heavenly clear sky with shining stars infused with purples and blues. We moved in an unsteady path, climbing what seemed to be an endless uphill only to pivot downwards creating an illusionary arch. The beauty crawled through my senses gradually and in contrast with my exhaustion; the sound of waterfalls, the touch of cotton-like snow, and the taste of adventure. I again found myself coming to life the same way the rush of frozen water revived me. Only this time it was the rush of beauty. Soon enough, I forgot I was too exhausted. Time here flee like a thief. Without realizing we've been hiking for four hours, we reached the shelter. The shelter; Rycerzowa is close to the Slovakian boarders. This ended the beginning of a great adventure. I'm lucky to have ended up there.
