Living in forgetfulness

Portugal | Monday, November 24, 2014 | 5 photos

I’m Rita, a Portuguese microbial ecologist. All my scientific work is related to soil microbiota and its interactions with the surrounding environment. I always had a strong desire to be close to nature, to understand it. The power of nature and the solutions it finds to overcome the biological barriers always surprised and astonished me. In fact, this is an old passion. In my childhood I saw a lot of tv-shows about the wild life and I dreamed about joining one of these amazing trips and being an inspiring scientist. When I grew a little more, I became a scout girl (during 15 years). I lived a lot of adventures, and I’ve been in close contact with the wild life. Though, I had learned a lot, even today I’m still surprised when I see a dewdrop on a leaf, or even a spider building its cobweb. So my passion today is even bigger. Moreover, I’ve a passion for details. Both passions are echoed on my professional life and photographs. Indeed, with my camera I love to capture not only the surrounding environment, ie, the beautiful landscapes that I’ve seen, but also small details that usually are not seen. I always try to capture the big scene looking into the small parts of it.
