Traveling by Heart
An account of the voluntary, volunteering trek that woke the Took in this previously un-Tookish Hobbit.
About the_wee_took
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow,if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then?
I cannot say.
Up until recently I was happy living in my warm, quiet home, living a warm
quiet life, pouring over maps and dreaming of the big world outside my
door. Then, last November, I got a taste of adventure that awoke in me
the Tookish nature passed down from a South Sea faring Irish Great Grandmother
on my mother's side, and from global trekking, far corners of the Earth
exploring grandparents on my father's side. A decidedly Tookish nature
that I thought had skipped a generation, but stirred the first time a set foot
on an international flight to Cuba, on a trip with persons unknown to places
unknown. It had a short hibernation, but is back with a vengeance.
Generally Hobbitish by nature, I like to plan and prepare. And so we find
ourselves here, in preparation for a new adventure, about a year out from the
date when I set foot on The Road, to travel with persons unknown, to
destinations unknown.
