This day of the trip was set aside for just one purpose - a shopping trip to Harrods, promised to Gloria, as we did not do it the last time we were in London.
Male family members (or any males living on this planet) please take note - never ever agree to take your partner shopping at Harrods, no matter what the promised rewards.
The first thing you notice when you walk in the door is the prices. You believe that this will be the really expensive stuff and the bargains are further inside or on one of the floors above.
Wrong
The cheap stuff is at the door.
Want a chess set for $8,000? Yes, $8,000 - this is not a typo.
How about a candle for around $250?
A tie at $240 is a real steal.
I think you get the picture. I didn't bother pricing a suit or a new pair of shoes.
Yes, we did buy some things at Harrods and we are now the proud owners of two plastic Harrods bags that we given to us when we purchased our (not very cheap) trinkets. I intend to frame the bags and hang them on the wall both as evidence and as a trophy.
Of course, the other issue is that I, rather foolishly, went shopping with Gloria and Eily. Men like to go to a shop to buy something, not spend hours rummaging through racks of clothes and other things. This is particularly frustrating when you know they have no intention of buying the things that they are looking at. I suppose that is my punishment for something I did earlier in my life.
Next we go to France....
