My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
Canada | Sunday, January 13, 2013 | 5 photos
I was introduced to the world of photography as a boy, watching my father patiently take photos of the breathtaking wildlife and scenery at various game reserves while our family was posted for three years in Kenya during the late 1980s. The lessons I gleaned from my dad came in handy later in my life. After dabbling in photography as a casual hobby for about a decade, I decided in 2011 to return to school and formally learn the art.
I’m now in the last semester of my program at college, hoping to find my way into a new career. This scholarship opportunity comes at just the right time for me, as I get ready to move beyond the theory to start learning the practical experience of working as a photographer. I also have an interest in the written word, so the requirement of a daily journal for this assignment is an added bonus.
I still have a love of travel and learning about other cultures, something that has stayed with me since my childhood. I’m very curious about the world around me, and my goal with my photography is to capture the wonder and beauty of every day life. The mundane and the ordinary can provide just as many great images as the more glamorous locations.
