My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Worldwide | Tuesday, November 8, 2011 | 5 photos

My name is Tess, and I am a student at Trinity Christian School, in Canberra, Australia. I first showed an interest in photography in 2010, when I chose it as an elective in year 11. Little did I know it would quickly become my love, my passion and my desired occupation.
After two years of studying both film and digital photography as a major in college, I have been able to expand my photography skills and techniques, and develop my own personal style.
Upon travelling to Uganda on a school mission trip in 2010, I realised that my love of photography and my love of travel had collided. Although we were in Uganda for a mission trip, I was able to capture the beauty of the country and the happiness within the people I met in several of my photographs. These were aspects I did not expect to see in such a poor country.

There is something about a photograph that says more than words ever could and by capturing a moment, a viewer is able to gain a sense of the emotions and circumstances within that photograph.
In each of my photographs, there are several different feelings conveyed. For example, my photograph of the street and the people passing by reflects a feeling of simplicity and tranquility. The photograph of the young girl holding a baby expresses a feeling of hardship, but also love and devotion.
These photographs and experiences helped me to realise the type of photography I want to pursue, which brings my two passions together.
Having been given a taste of Africa, it is my plan to return there to concentrate wholly on photography, and further develop my skills as a photographer. A dream job of mine is to be a travel photographer, where I can visit and experiences different countries, and most importantly capture these moments on film for the world to see.
