My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I bought my first DSLR around the end of 2011, after being exposed to numerous friends whom all shot professionally or were keen amateurs, all of whom mentored me and helped me progress. I enjoy the challenge of more technically difficult photos that require multiple attempts to pull off - however what I really enjoy about photography is the ability to freeze a moment or event in time, a means of documenting something you've witnessed or experienced. My favorite photos are those that are shot on a whim and without planning put into them, that capture a genuine moment in time that cannot be replicated.

I believe I should be chosen because I feel as though my shooting mentality is conducive to this competition, not only in a photographic sense but also because I'm at a stage in my life (I'm 23) where I feel an almost insatiable urge to travel and explore the world. I actually grew up in the UAE from 1990-1994 and my family has extensive knowledge of the Middle East.
