About 30km from the nearest town, Masvingo, and a further 4km from the main highway is my maternal rural homestead. I decided to take my partner to experience life as I did as a child. We used to spend almost every school holiday at the homestead with no running water and no electricity. There was nothing but the natural environment to keep us occupied. Life at my maternal rural homestead is close to pre-colonial Shona life. The left hut is used for grain storage, the middle hut is the kitchen, and the right hut is used for storing meat and making home brew beer.
