Learning to See

My Scholarship entry - Euphoric Earth

Mexico | Saturday, November 22, 2014 | flickr photos

Photography is my passion, my outlet, my guide. It was my light in a dark place. After a car accident took my left eye, I had to learn to see again. I started taking photos for fun, but I soon realized that it was helping me see things better; and I mean really see them. Pursing the hobby further, I discovered the beauty in simple little things that I used to look right past. Now everything I look at holds some kind of beauty worth capturing, and I want to share it with the world. I may only be able to see with one eye, but I see more now than I ever have before, and I want everyone to see things like I do! The photo set I submitted with this application tells the story of a trip I took to Mexico last January. It was one of the first times I traveled out of the United States. Seeing a part of this beautiful world that was completely new to me opened my eyes (or in this case, my eye) to so much more than I had ever imagined. Now, my wanderlust is growing, and my urge to teach others how to 'see' is too. A trip to Peru would allow me to once again experience the pure beauty of this amazing Earth and expand my photography knowledge in order to help others learn to see just as I do.
