My Scholarship entry - Accidental Beauty

A year ago I began hiking with small sandbags in my Camelbak thinking to myself: if I get the chance to travel and take photos- I want to be in shape and ready to go. Today I can now trail run with 50 pounds of sand plus my equipment. From all of my outdoor adventures like hiking and snake catching, I knew this Amazon trip was meant for me.
When I graduated with a journalism degree I had big dreams to pursue the news industry. I quickly discovered that bigger stories were out there when I had the chance to backpack Europe. The world is rich with untold stories waiting for me to discover and share.
Traveling has changed my life and vision for my future. Meeting people from around the world has helped shape who I am and my view on life. The comforting grasp of a camera body in my hands makes me feel as though I can express to the world what I see through a lens. I've had no formal camera training so this learning experience with Jason would teach me how to portray the unseen and tell powerful visual stories. Every where you go there's a story to be shot or told, I'm ready to share mine with the world.
When you're out there shooting in the world, there's no script or schedule. I call it accidental beauty. By accident or fate, in the ocean or on land, beauty always finds my lens and my heart.
