I like to travel and Rusinga Island off Lake victoria is a favorite destination.
On my way there I was troubled by the current abuse of the lake and imagined what it will be like in the next ten years if the current trend continues.
I am an independent photographer and motion designer who likes to tell stories with pictures (www.tedkenya.com). I have witnessed the power of still pictures in visual communication and see documentaries as a continuation of those stories.
Kenya is a country with forty-two tribes, and very diverse cultures, which unfortunately politicians, have used to divide the people. Documentaries create the opportunity to educate, explore and kill stereotypes while promoting understanding amongst the varied communities, and broadening the thoughts of the urbun population beyond the cities.
Being self-taught this far and adventures, I believe the scholarship will enable me to be a better storyteller and empower me to tell local stories with global standards thus opening up other destinations while promoting local economies.
