Barcelona 31st may we arrived and the weather was lot more bearable than Dubai 44 ,in the early hrs we left the fog was like smoke,
Our Hotel we are staying in is right near the central area of Barcelona Plaza de Catalunya, great location, we literally walk outside our door and this breakfast ,coffee shop is right opposite,Yesterday our first morning we were going to try the churos and chocolate, but liked the idea of the traditional eggs etc,
Will try the churos today ,
Decided to do both RedBus. Tours in the one day otherwise it was another 29€ each,
So pleased we did this really wanted to see how much the Sagrada Familia had moved on after my visit in 1975 and 1994. and it has ,it's still about another 50 years to go,
I knew about Anton Gaudi but never knew much more than being a great architect, We stopped off the bus at the Sagrada de Familia had a walk around etc ,still can't believe how much detail is in the construction, The only great architecture we have in Australia is the Opera House, Barcelona is full of great architecture, The Torre Agbar is an apartment building built dome like, high rise the inner facade is different coloured tiles in sections ,all lit at night and over the top of this is completely covered with automatically controlled louvres, some clear glass some frosted,It looks spectacular,I bet it would look great at night time,we might go do that,
Then we stopped off at the Park Guell. It took 14 years to develop the park and it's simply littered with stone walls walkways, mosaics it is a true wonder of the world,We wanted to see the main section but the tours were booked out till 6 pm that day.Instead we toured Gaudis house it was supposed to have been a display home for the park but that idea never went very far and Gaudi moved into the house and lived there with his papa and niece, in 1906 apparently his father and niece both died there,
His architecture in some ways like the designs of even the furniture ,door handles ,etc were like Lloyd Wright designed by the architect.
All the handrails around the garden are hand made twisted iron lots of the balcony railing all hand done,
Today Friday we walked the prime Gracia to another of Anton Gaudis buildings Cassa Batllo, people called it the House of Bones,,the line was out the door onto the street,It is busy here in Barcelona, height of summer,Luckily only 100 metres up the street is another Anton Gaudis great building the casa Milan or La Pedrera,we were able to get a ticket easily, This really is a wonderfully created place, apparently he drew the floor plan and attached different lengths of cord on balloons to create the shape,we saw the roof terrace ,the central atrium and the apartment in its original form,Just loving the amount of great architecture here in Barcelona,You all must put this on your list to do,,
