My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Traveling, writing, taking pictures... If life should be summed up to only three things, that would do it for me. I just cannot understand people who don't want to see the world. There are so many amazing places to see, so many interesting people to meet, so many different ways of living to discover... And to be able to share those marvels with others, to try and convey what I felt here and there, as accurately as possible, both with words and pictures, well, that's my dream.
Now I have managed the writing bit pretty well - I currently work as a journalist and also kept a blog during a six months travel last year - but I still have to master photography. I guess I have a sensibility when it comes to take pictures, I see things not necessarily everybody sees, I really feel "alive" when I am out there with my camera, trying to take the best shot, lying on the ground to find the best angle (and making a fool of myself!). But I would really need help from a professional photographer to make myself better, especially when it comes to the technical skills. That scholarship would then be an excellent opportunity for me. I believe that we learn a lot more on the field than by reading books.
I took these pictures last summer in Ireland. I have always been fascinated by the atmosphere up there and can totally understand why there are so many myths about gnomes, elves and witches in this country. The landscape just conjures up the magic. When I was there, I was also taken aback by the skies, the clouds, the light... All in all, I figured that black and white pictures would convey these ideas more accurately. By playing with the contrasts, I tried to give to my pictures the mystic atmosphere of Ireland.
Sorry for my imperfect English, French is my mother tongue!
