This has been taken from notes made along the way in South East Asia so anytime I mention that I'm sat on a plane or a beach, i'm not. I'm actually writing this in freezing cold Scotland wishing i was typing this on a beach.
Sept 18th
So I'm writing this on a Thai Airlines flight, one hour and 30 minutes away from Bangkok. The plan is to spend the next month travelling through Thailand, Cambodia and Laos. This is the first time I've ever really travelled to explore places. Here's why I'm doing so.
For the last year I have been teaching English in South Korea. At first there was only one reason for being there and that was to save mone. Before that I was a bit of a snob about travel. If you had offered me the choice between 2 weeks in Thailand living in guesthouses or a weekend in Aberdeen at a 4 star hotel; Then for the first time in it's life Aberdeen would win at something.
That all changed about a month into my time in Korea. I remeber sitting drinking with 4 folks and the whole night they were talking about all their travels. All I had was Zante and Tenerifewhich didn't quite compare. It all sounded so exciting, then I became hooked by watching Micheal Palin and reading the great book 'First They Killed My Father.'
So for the last 11 months I'ver been waiting for this day and now I'm nervous and dreading it. Worried that I'll be robbed, or that my bank card wont work, or that I'll be spending a month in solitary confinement as no one will talk to me. But most of all; I'm just excited to be here and get some stories opf my own to tell.
