My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
Afghanistan | Sunday, December 16, 2012 | 5 photos
I was in the Army for 6 years and deployed to Afghanistan in 2010. One of the things that kept me sane was the fact that I always had my trusty DSLR with me so that I could visually document my experience. I left the army in September 2012 and am now currently working at a hospital as a store man.
I got married this year went to Vietnam for the honeymoon. My wife had to keep reminding me to put the camera down and just take in the experiences. For me photography is about balance. It’s about experiencing something and then having the photographs afterwards to remind me of it as the years go by and the memories fade away.
I have only recently begun to understand the importance of storytelling. The story behind the photograph is what separates it from the rest of the field. It has the ability to add so much more depth to the image and evoke a lot more thought and emotion
I would like to be chosen for this scholarship as it would be an incredible opportunity to improve my skills and techniques.
I would like my photography to serve a purpose, to help remind others of their experiences or to capture people and places others may never get to see but in a way that does them justice.
