My Scholarship entry - Thailand at a Glimpse

WhileI was growing up I don't remember seeing my mum without a camera in front of her face. For years as a stroppy teenager I thought this was pointless but now I see it for what it was, a gift. She captured moments and stories we may have lost .
She taught me that photos allow you to not only capture an image but they allow you to capture the feelings, memories and people in and around that picture.
I am a 28 year old Welsh girl who has been writing a list of 'things to see' in the back of every notebook since I was 7.
I had my first real glimpse of the world at 12 when my family moved to Saudi Arabia. Since then I have grabbed at any opportunity to travel. 2 years ago I took the step of moving to South Korea and it has only fed my travel addiction.
My camera goes every where with me. The photos may not always be perfect but they help me capture a glimpse into a special time in my life.
I am not from a rich family but we are richer because of the memories my mum created with her camera. This has made me appreciate how much more an image can be than just ink and pixels.
The challenge of traveling to Peru is a daunting one but I can't help but be excited at the prospect.
