One morning, bleary eyed walk up to the front of camp for a cup of coffee. As everyone huddles around the campfire, chatting about the days plans. A pack of Painted dogs run up and start drinking at the Waterhole in front of Camp. A solitary doe Kudu happened to pop out of the bushes at that time... wrong time, wrong place. The Painted Dogs give chase and the Kudu jumped straight into our plunge pool. The terrified animal could not get out as her hooves were just slipping on the smooth surface of the pool. The staff managed to get a rope and pull the wet animal out of the pool.
The Painted Dogs had been hanging around and they then capatilized on the tired Kudu, chased it through the water in front of camp and caught it for Breakfast. It was an amazing thing to witness, a bit sad but that is the way life runs out here in the wildernesses of africa.
