I am new to this travel journal site. I've been to many places for travel, work and study and can't imagine not traveling for extended periods. I'm going to Mexico for about 3 weeks before I head to Guatemala for approximately 6 months. I hope to go to Belize and possibly Honduras. I am arriving in Cancun and immediately going to Playa del Carmen to meet a long lost Mexican friend who I met on a Ducks Unlimited Adventure in Alberta when we were in highschool. We kept in touch for years until after university when my traveling and hers caused us to lose contact. We have always been searching for each other and we finally found each other on facebook after months of searching and rechecking! Fortunately she found me, after I decided to go down to Central America. I was intent on looking for her, so it was meant to be. I will stay in Playa del Carmen only a few days to spend time with her and her family. I plan to check out Tulum, Coba, Ek'Balam, and Chichichen'itza. I expect that this will be enough to satisfy my first impression of Mexico and I will most definitely return to explore the gulf coast from Veracruz to Celestun on a different trip. I will then head to Oaxaca for the Day of the Dead, and will probably stay for 4 or 5 days. I will move on to Morelia to experience the return of the Monarch Butterflies for several days, and then to Guadalajara. From here I hope to fly to the Mexican/Guatemalan border. None of these destinations or timelines are definite, other than I do not want to miss the Day of the Dead in Oaxaca. I will most likely edit this page because this belongs in my Mexico album.
