My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I am by nature a quiet person. When I do talk,I have that rare gift of making even the most exciting of stories seem ploddingly dull. So I observe, rather than participate.

I know that's not the real me though. The real me, curious and passionate to the point where it becomes a health hazard, was something I couldn't express in words. That's why I love photography. Through photographs, my stories came to life more vividly and clearer than words could say. Looking at people through a lens was my way of understanding people when I was too shy to look at them in the eyes. Through photographs, I could show people the world from my point of view, both the good and the bad. Whatever emotions I was afraid to show, be it sadness or joy, I showed them in the pictures I took. Photography is a way for me to express what is in my heart, as well as a way of keeping the places I go, the people I meet and the experiences I have in my heart.

The world is a place full of endless places to explore and stories to tell. Stories of war, beauty, grief, triumph and the small happiness of everyday life. Through photography, I become a storyteller.
