Monks of Luang Prabang Laos
Laos | Sunday, January 13, 2013 | 4 photos
My first introduction to photography was the first time I laid my hands on my late grandfather's Canon AE1. I was around 10 years old at the time and remember being so excited when I was finally handed the responsibility of taking my first photo. That sparked my interest in photography and photojournalism which remains to this day, however thirty years on I have not become a photo journalist but in relative terms a rather boring lawyer still learning the art of photography.
To me, a great photographer is someone who not just captures a great looking image but someone who can "see" a situation and capture an image that invokes an emotional response from the viewer. This is a skill that I am steadily learning and hope to improve with tuition from one of National Geographic's best in Jason Edwards.
My motivation in entering this competition is to learn and hopefully be able to improve my skills and inspire other weekend photographers to not just be photo takers but story tellers.
