My Photo scholarship 2011 entry
USA | Tuesday, November 1, 2011 | 5 photos
Hey Jason! I'm Sydney.
My pictures:
These five pictures are taken in southwest Minnesota. The plains always seemed to be a flat and relatively boring landscape until I returned from living in another country. The land seemed to open up in a different way that I hadn't noticed before. Out on the road between the sprinklings of these small towns, I drive home past thousands of cows like usual, but this time they weren’t just eating the land, they were conveying depth to it. Home was huge.
About me: I'm studying photography at Uni. Minnesota, Morris.
I've been honing my new photography skills for the last year, beginning as I lived abroad. I take naturally to photographing models, coordinating them easily and having a unique eye for composing the human body. My true passion, though - where I see myself as a professional - is in travel photography. The reason I chose to submit photos from home instead of Costa Rica is to demonstrate my ability to recognizing the beauty in my own, everyday environment, giving me the advantage of easily recognizing it in a foreign place.
What I know:
- How to live and travel in foreign countries.
- Spanish, which is always useful.
- I'm right for this.
What I need to learn:
- How to direct MYSELF around nature/animals/culture.
- How to use my equipment more efficiently.
- Not to drive and take pictures at the same time.
I'm eager to get my foot in the door, and working for National Geographic is just what I need. I'm eager to get hands-on in the thick of the thick. Africa is calling me, and I'm ready to get the film rolling, ready to get my career rolling, ready for your help and direction, Jason. Thank you!
