My Photo scholarship 2010 entry
Worldwide | Sunday, September 12, 2010 | 4 photos
These 4 photos are from a recent trip to Bolivia. Driving through this desert high in the Andes, the scenery and surroundings conveyed it all: vastness, desolation, forgotten beauty and even symmetry in a place where one would least expect it.
I chose these 4 photos as they best represent what we encountered throughout our 3 day trip. The story itself is the story of space; open space where the relics of yesterday remain with no where to go as the present zooms by in the form of 4 wheel drives.
I love photography and I would love to be selected for this scholarship for 2 reasons.
1) I lack the technical training necessary in order to capture the best possible photograph whilst using the appropriate functions on the camera. I've never had the time nor the means to fully develop these skills, and this would be an excellent opportunity to improve and to understand the functions
2) The want and love to tell stories through pictures. The ability to capture the imagination, the emotions, and the interests of the picture viewers is an ability that I highly respect. If one can connect the pictures together and form a story, it allows one to connect to the location, to the event, and to the people. This is a special craft that I would love to hone in on.
I am a 28 year old Canadian who quit my job a few years back to travel the world with my girlfriend. It brought me into many-a-moment when I wished I could, through photography, convey properly what I experienced. The beauty, the harshness, and everything in-between. Sometimes a picture tells it best. Allow me to learn to tell it better.
Thanks
Matt
