My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Worldwide | Saturday, October 16, 2010 | 5 photos

I’m Elisha and it is a year today that I came home from Africa and I never realised how much of my heart I left there. I love my photos so much, that my wonderful friend Annette wanted me to enter today. Her favourite picture is the elephant that is why it begins my journal. This photo was taken in Chobe Botswana. The shear size and number of the elephants was overwhelming and mesmerising. This bull elephant was only a few feet away from our 4 X 4 and I could see all his eyelashes and every wrinkle and crack that makes him so beautiful. When he trumpeted it made us all lean back into the 4 X 4 and hold our breaths in anticipation. I was greatly rewarded for all the quite hours I spent with binoculars round my neck looking for the next bit of action. The photo of the hippos is my best action shot. To see the brut force of the most dangerous animal in Africa was brilliant but spine chilling. The endless plains that are the Serengeti made for the most spectacular sunsets. This photograph was taken after visiting the Maasai. The Maasai woman took my hand and showed me through her village. She guided me through her home, shared her jewellery, danced with me, and she laughed when I showed her her picture. Walking up the dunes of Nambia to see the sunrise was great fun and a team effort. I love that I have a photo that goes with the memories of the foot prints we left on the dunes.I am a complete novice when it comes to cameras and understanding the elements that can turn a good picture into a great one. I love taking pictures and creating memories. But I would be forever in your debt if you gave me the chance to capture Bhutan through your experienced eyes. The lessons that would be learned would forever shape the way I photographed my travels, my family and friends, my world.
