My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

As a child my dad had a collection of National Geographic magazines piled as tall as I was. I would sit in my lounge room and flick through all of them again and again. I found the pictures in National Geographic more exciting than any fairytale book. To me the stories in these magazies were real fairytales with about people all over the world. I didn't need to read the article to know the full story, I was told everything I needed to from looking at the image. Now at 26, I strive to tell true fairytales the same way through my photography.
I have chosen to share with you images of my local community festival, which I am very passionate about. This year was the festivals first year and I wanted to capture this historic moment and the excitement of it all.
I have not had any professional photography training and I've never set foot out of my home country, Australia...yet. I don't think thats a bad thing at all. What I bring to my photography is a raw quality including passion, warmth, connectivity, sensitivity and a different perspective.
I may not be able to eloquently convey in words why I should be chosen, hopefully my photography speaks for itself.
